permanent makeup

Permanent makeup has become very popular over the last few years, and the number of technicians who are trained in this technique has increased tenfold.

Have you ever considered permanent makeup?

Wouldn’t it be nice to wake up everyone morning looking fresh-faced and ready to go? Wouldn’t it be nice to not have to waste time putting on your makeup each day?

Before you decide that this technique is a good option for you, it’s important to make sure you’re fully informed.

Explained below is everything you need to know about permanent makeup.

What is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent makeup is a special cosmetic technique that mimics the look of freshly applied makeup.

This technique involves a process known as micropigmentation. A technician uses a tattoo pen to inject permanent ink into the skin.

Most Popular Options

There are many different options for those who want to invest in permanent makeup. It can mimic the look of fresh eyeliner, lip liner, lipstick, or eyebrow pencil.

Of all these options, mimicking the look of freshly filled-in eyebrows is one of the best ones to consider. This technique is also known as microblading.

Microblading has become very popular over the last few years, especially now that so many people are embracing thicker eyebrows. It helps to make up for the overplucking mistakes most of us made during the 90s and early 2000s!

Should I Try Permanent Makeup?

Permanent makeup can be an incredible option for some folks. It’s not for everyone though.

The following are some people who are most likely to benefit from microblading and other types of permanent makeup:

Those with Thin Eyebrows

If you have thin eyebrows, you’re a great candidate for microblading.

Whether you’ve over-plucked them in the past or they’re naturally sparse, microblading can help. Microblading is also helpful for folks who have very light eyebrows.

If your eyebrows are uneven and one is thinner or patchier than the other, microblading can correct the issue and create a more symmetrical look.

Those with Healthy Skin

If you’re going to undergo microblading or any other kind of permanent makeup treatment, you need to make sure your skin is in relatively good health. What does this mean, exactly?

First, your skin should not be overly sensitive. If you have a tendency to breakout easily or react to a lot of products, microblading and permanent makeup might not be good options.

If your skin is normal in texture and you don’t suffer from eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis, you can likely undergo microblading or other treatments without any concerns.

Those Who’ve Had Permanent Makeup in the Past

If you’ve had permanent makeup in the past and haven’t had any negative reactions, there’s a good chance you can have your eyebrows microbladed or have other types of permanent makeup applied without any issues.

You can also use permanent makeup to correct past applications that didn’t turn out exactly as you’d hoped.

Permanent makeup techniques have come a long way over the last few years, and the results look much more natural.

If you weren’t happy with past permanent makeup jobs, you might want to consider having it corrected so you can take advantage of the latest improvements.

Those Who Aren’t Taking Specific Medications

Some medications can affect the skin’s healing ability and make it more sensitive.

If you’re taking medications like Accutane or Retin-A, you should wait at least a year before you have your eyebrows microbladed or have any other types of permanent makeup applied.

You should also discontinue the use of vitamin A and Retinol one month before you undergo any of these treatments.

What to Expect from Permanent Makeup

Do you think you’re a good candidate for microblading or permanent makeup? If so, you’re probably wondering what you can expect from the procedure.

Every procedure is a bit different. In general, though, you can expect it to go something like this.

Initial Consultation

Before you can have your eyebrows microbladed or any other kind of permanent makeup applied, you’ll need to sit down for an initial consultation with the technician.

During this consultation, they will explain the procedure and take a look at your skin to see if you’re a good candidate.

They’ll also ask about your medical history to make sure you’re not taking any medications that could have a negative effect on your results.

Procedure

If everything goes well during the consultation, you’ll be able to go ahead and schedule an appointment.

It usually takes about 2-3 hours to have your eyebrows microbladed or to have permanent makeup applied. The length of time varies depending on the amount of hair you have, the shape of your eyebrows, and the specific results you’re looking for.

Remember, too, that you’ll need to have your makeup touched up about 6-10 weeks after the initial appointment.

Permanent Makeup Aftercare

Microblading is very trendy right now and lots of people are seeing great results from it. In order to see these results, though, you’ll need to take good care of your eyebrows afterward.

The following are some permanent makeup and microblading aftercare tips you ought to follow:

  • Cleanse your eyebrows as directed by your technician, but do not get them wet otherwise
  • Avoid water-related activities and sweating for 10 days
  • Avoid extreme heat (such as from a sauna) or direct sunlight for 10 days
  • Do not scratch your eyebrows (they will get itchy and scab as the skin heals)
  • Avoid using skin care products on your brows, including exfoliants

Be sure not to apply cosmetics to your eyebrows for at least 10 days, too.
